Job Summary
The Instrument Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and optimizing instrumentation and control systems in industrial environments. This role supports the reliability and efficiency of plant operations by ensuring all control systems—including DCS, SCADA, and PLC—function effectively and safely.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and breakdown maintenance on field instrumentation and control systems
Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation devices such as transmitters, control valves, and analyzers
Read, interpret, and apply technical documents including P&ID drawings, loop diagrams, and termination drawings
Conduct instrument calibration (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, level) and perform functional testing of systems
Carry out overhauls of instruments, control systems, and associated equipment
Maintain and support Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Fire & Gas (F&G) systems, and SCADA systems
Administer SCADA infrastructure including networks, cybersecurity, servers, and workstations
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs (e.g., Schneider, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent platforms)
Integrate field transmitters and devices with PLCs and verify signal integrity through calibration
Support and maintain Local Control Panels (LCP) and Remote Terminal Units (RTU)
Monitor equipment condition and manage spare parts to ensure system availability
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards and operational procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or higher in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance of instrumentation and control systems
Experience in industrial environments such as oil & gas, power plants, petrochemical, refinery, or similar industries is an advantage
Strong knowledge of control systems including DCS, SCADA, SIS, F&G, RTU, and PLCs
Good understanding of instrumentation principles, control systems, and communication protocols
Hands-on experience with:
Instrument calibration (Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level, etc.)
Control valve testing and overhaul
PLC programming and troubleshooting
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents
Experience with equipment overhauling, condition monitoring, and spare parts management
Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team
