The Human Resources (HR) Manager/Assistant Manager role is a great opportunity for an HR professional to oversee people operations in a large-scale manufacturing plant. This role focuses on workforce planning, employee relations, payroll, welfare coordination, and HR operations within a 24-hour industrial environment, particularly during peak crop seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Workforce and manpower management

    • Plan and allocate manpower to support continuous plant operations

    • Manage recruitment of seasonal and subcontract labour for peak production periods

    • Oversee shift scheduling, overtime, and attendance systems

  • Payroll, compensation and welfare

    • Ensure accurate payroll processing, including allowances and incentives

    • Manage employee welfare programmes, including housing, transport, canteen, and PPE

    • Liaise with government authorities, including the Labour Office and Social Security Office

  • Labour and industrial relations

    • Build strong employee engagement and help prevent labour disputes

    • Handle disciplinary processes and ensure legal compliance

    • Coordinate with local authorities and communities

  • Performance management

    • Develop and monitor KPIs aligned with plant productivity goals

  • Safety, health and training

    • Support occupational safety initiatives and health check programmes

    • Deliver training programmes for employees and seasonal workers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resource Management, Law, Political Science, Industrial Psychology, or a related field

  • 5 to 7 years of HR experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial role

  • Strong background in manufacturing or industrial environments

  • Experience managing blue-collar and shift-based workforces

  • Strong knowledge of labour laws and industrial relations

  • Experience with seasonal workforce and subcontractor management

  • Understanding of payroll structures in plant environments

  • Familiarity with ISO standards and occupational safety

  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong stakeholder and community relationship management skills
