The Chief Engineer role is responsible for overseeing engineering operations for a resort and spa in Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, covering both pre-opening and operational phases. This role is a great fit for an experienced engineering or facilities management professional with strong leadership capability and hands-on knowledge of resort infrastructure, safety, compliance, and maintenance planning.
Responsibilities
Oversee the resort’s physical assets and grounds, including buildings, tents, technical systems, utilities, and landscaped areas
Manage engineering operations across both pre-opening and operational phases
Ensure guest and employee safety, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency, and the long-term sustainability of resort infrastructure and green spaces
Lead the Engineering team and support a culture of safety across engineering operations
Manage key third-party service providers, including landscaping and pest control vendors
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field
Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in a senior engineering or facilities management role, preferably within a luxury hospitality environment
At least 3 years’ experience in a managerial capacity
Extensive experience maintaining high-end resort or hotel facilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, water, and wastewater systems
Experience in island or remote locations and/or outdoor, tented, or glamping-style operations is a strong advantage
Pre-opening experience, including testing and commissioning, snagging, handover, and setting up maintenance programmes, is a strong advantage
Experience managing third-party technical service providers, particularly landscaping and pest control, is an advantage
