The BOM Costing Engineer role offers an exciting opportunity to act as Lead First Article Inspection (FAI) within an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role focuses on leading First Article Inspection activities, reviewing FAI documentation, ensuring AS9102 compliance, and supporting production, engineering, and audit readiness through strong technical accuracy and team coordination.
Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and coordinate the daily activities of the FAI team and FAI Foreman
Plan and prioritise FAI workload in line with production schedules and customer commitments
Review and approve part-level FAI reports, assembly-level FAI reports, ballooned drawings, and inspection results
Verify that all design characteristics, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and special processes, are properly captured and validated
Ensure correct interpretation of aerospace drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
Confirm compliance with AS9102, including Forms 1, 2, and 3
Support production and engineering teams in resolving FAI-related issues and clarifications
Maintain high standards of documentation quality, traceability, and audit readiness
Comply with company policies and other company regulations
Contribute to internal and external audits, including customer and certification body audits, as an FAI subject matter expert
Develop, maintain, and improve FAI procedures, templates, and best practices
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, quality, or inspection roles
Strong working knowledge of AS9102
Experience with quality management systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001
Proven ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, including GD&T
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
High level of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail, particularly for FAI approval responsibility
Strong sense of ownership and accountability in decision-making
Good leadership skills or demonstrated ability to guide and support a team
Good command of written and spoken English
